Sellwood Session - Hourglass

I love this piece, which I created during a workshop I taught at the Pittsburgh Glass Center. It has been in my house ever since, and at the beginning of this year, I carved its surface. The piece is made from hand-made glass murrini (mosaic tiles) that are clipped, arranged cold, heated to fusing temperature, and then compressed into a sheet. The sheet is then rolled up into a cylinder to create the volume, closed, and then shaped. Finally, the blown and carved murrini vessel is ready.
